How Should I Invest In A Volatile Market?

I am 23 and a first time investor. I started making contributions to my 401(k) early this year. The recent losses and volatility have made me very nervous about the safety of my money. My father says I should have all my money in stock funds but I am considering moving my money to a bond fund. What do you recommend?I have two answers to your dilemma.
